As part of our commitment to give you the best eye care we have a state of the art OCT-3D Eye Scanner. This allows us to detect eye diseases at the earliest possible stage.
Our?3D?OCT?eye scanner uses a low powered light to scan the back of your eye. During your normal eye examination, your optometrist can only see the top layer of your retina. The 3D OCT scan allows viewing of the deeper layers of retinal tissues. It is in these deeper layers that the signs of macula degeneration, diabetes, macula holes etc. can be first seen. The 3D OCT scan allows for early detection and therefore earlier treatment of these conditions (where appropriate). This 3D OCT scan is appropriate at any age if recommended by your optometrist.
?Don?t assume just because your eyes feel ok that they are ok.?
By measuring the thickness of the nerve fibre layers, the OCT scan allows us to see the damaging effects of glaucoma much sooner than standard glaucoma checks including visual fields and pressure checks. It is also very helpful in monitoring glaucoma if you have been diagnosed with the disease.
Glaucoma is a manageable condition, so early diagnosis is essential to help save your sight. We recommend this test for all of our patients over 40. You do not have to have any family history of eye problems to suffer from glaucoma. Glaucoma does not hurt or affect your vision in the early stages so don?t assume just because your eyes feel ok that they are ok.
The inside of your eyes not only tells us about your vision. It can?highlight other health issues, like diabetes, high blood pressure, high?cholesterol and cancer. Some tumours can even be detected through a simple?but thorough eye exam.
A permanent photographic record
Your?digital 3D retinal image gives a permanent?record which can be compared with other pictures taken on previous and future visits. This makes it?much easier to detect small changes or health problems at an early stage. A?picture is a far more detailed record than could ever be described in?written words.
